Himilayan Tahr

The Himalayan Tahr is native to the southern range of the Himalayan Mountains, as well as Northern
India and Bhutan.  They typically inhabit mountains but do just fine in Texas where everything is bigger.  They feed off of grasses and herbs but will also each leaves from shrubs and are usually found in herds.  During the colder months it has a reddish to dark brown thick coat of fur and becomes lighter in color during the hotter months.

Body Length: 35 – 55 inches
Male Weight: 198 – 220 pounds
Female Weight: 132 – 152 pounds
Horns: 18 inch long horns on both male and female that curve backward and inward

(pronounced "tar")

Gestation period is 6 – 7 months where they will birth one kid. Young Tahr will depend on their mother's milk for about six months and will stay close to the mother for up to two years. Sexual maturity is reached at 2 – 3 years

of age. Breeding season occurs October to January.
