Dama & Mhorr Gazelle

The Dama Gazelle (pictured left) is found in Chad, Mali, Niger...and of course Texas ranches.  They inhabit grasslands and semi-deserts feeding off of acacia, bush leaves and grasses even standing on their hind legs to reach their food.  There are two subspecies which vary in color.  The red-necked (these guys drive the lifted pickup trucks) gazelle is bright white with a reddish-brown neck.

The other subspecies “Mhorr” (pictured above) gazelle is mostly red other than its underside and rump.  It has a small white patch on its throat, has a white face, red cheek patches and thin black stripes running from its eyes to the corners of the mouth.  Yes, it looks like it put on too much makeup.
