
Fallow Deer


Fallow Deer are common in across Europe and prized as ornamental species (a good lawn ornament for Rednecks?). Fallow Deer graze on grasses, young leaves, berries and acorns. Their coat ranges from red, brown, and black and can have pure white coats as well. Fallow Deer have a black line that runs along the back to the tail and can have white spots on their back during the summer.

Gestation period is 7 ½ months with the birthing occurring in late May to June where a single fawn is born. Females reach sexual maturity at 16 months and can start breeding by 2 years of age. Bucks reach sexual maturity at 14 months but cannot compete successfully in rutting until many years later.
