
Blackbuck - "BB"


The Blackbuck is a beautiful animal that is native to Asia mostly found in India with a small population
in Nepal. It is active throughout the day grazing on grass and plants.
Body Length: 47 inches
Shoulder Height: 29 – 33 inches
Horns: The males possess spiraling and ringed horns swept backward in a V-shape averaging 18 – 27 inches long
Weight: 74 – 94 pounds
The males are larger than the female and have a rich dark brown coat along the back, sides and outside of the legs. The female has a yellow-brown color on its head and along the back with both sexes having white underbellies as well as white rings around each eye.
Gestation period is a short 5 - 6 months which allows them to breed twice a year. The Blackbuck can give birth to 1 fawn per breeding cycle. They reach secual maturity at 1 1/2 years of age but do not usually breed until around 2 years of age.
